About

Hi, I’m Jake, the human behind The Napping Sloth.

I live with ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, hypermobility, chronic back pain and AuDHD, and I work full-time in IT, mostly from bed, thanks to a supportive employer and a lot of reasonable adjustments. I started this blog in December 2023 because I wanted somewhere honest to talk about what that life is actually like.

What you’ll find here

  • Living with ME/CFS day to day: pacing, crashes, post-exertional malaise and the good days in between
  • Working while chronically ill, and the adjustments that make it possible
  • UK systems from the inside: Blue Badges, PIP, assessments and accessible travel
  • Mobility aids, accessibility and getting out (on wheels, these days)
  • Relationships, identity and the loneliness nobody talks about

Why the sloth? Sloths move slowly, rest a lot and are still getting where they need to go. That felt about right.

A few honest notes I’m not a medical professional. Everything here is my own experience, and where I use facts or figures I link to the source. If something has worked for me, please check it with your GP or specialist before trying it.

How I write ME/CFS limits how much energy I can spend typing and editing, so I use AI tools to help turn my notes into finished posts. The experiences, opinions and decisions are all mine, and I check the facts before anything goes live.

Stay in touch New posts come out roughly every two weeks.

You can also find me on X, Bluesky and Facebook.

If you live with a chronic illness too, I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
